Inside the Soviet T-54/55
The T-54 and T-55 vehicles are simple and unrefined, and as such are uncomfortable to operate.  Then again, the whole idea behind these tanks was to quickly overwhelm an enemy through a very violent and determined offensive.  The concept that one would live in these tanks for extended periods of time did not enter the minds of the designers, or those in the Soviet military that set the design parameters.
While I have some interior photos of the T-55, I have yet to scan them, so at this time I will post more recent photos of the same T-55 as above.  It is now in out door storage in Richardson Motorpark at Fort Knox, the same motorpool where I first did my training.
Above, a frontal view of the T-55 in storage in the now torn down Patton Museum warehouse buildings along Eisenhower Blvd at Fort Knox.  To the right is a close up view of a dummy 100mm high explosive round, probably the 53-UOF-412.
